Star Wars is one of the most enduring franchises that are still popular among oldies and the youth. With the first movie being released three decades ago, inevitably the storyline and its amazing characters have found their way into popular culture.
Much of the story, the quotes, and fictional characters have also become a popular theme and source of inspiration for many events including costume parties. With the series continuing afresh, thanks to the “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”, it seemed time for Team Empire to choose some of the saga’s best and most famous characters, which are:
One of the most popular characters from the Star Wars Series, Darth Vader (also known by his birth name “Anakin Skywalker”) appears as a pivotal antagonist and the riskiest proposition in the character canon who plays an important role in the plot of the first three films.
His corruption (How does evil come from good?) is central to prequel trilogy, as he faces his own son Luke Skywalker in battle, while leading the dark side of the Force. Serving Emperor Palpatine (a.k.a. Darth Sidious) and the evil Galactic Empire, Darth Vader is also the secret husband of Padme Amidala, father of Princess Leia Organa, and grandfather of Kylo Ren.
Nicknamed as “Chewie” and perhaps one of the central icons in most Star Wars toys, Chewbacca is intelligent “Wookiee” specie from the Kashyyyk planet. He is among the most notable Wookiee’s of all and serves as a companion of Han Solo, who was first given orders to kill Chewie, but refused. This action caused him to be dismissed from the imperial Navy.
To repay the debt, Chewbacca takes an oath to protect Han for the rest of his life. In a galaxy where loyalty is at a premium and deceit and double-cross run deep, Chewbacca is the character you want to stay by your side. Moreover, oh yes, he is also the best intergalactic smuggler the world has ever seen before.
The most powerful and wisest Jedi of them all, Master Yoda is one of the only specie to be found in the Star Wars Franchise. His Jedi Wisdom combined with a lovable font is undimmable. He’s lived for plus 900 years and proves to be the oldest living characters in the Star Wars Franchise, until the introduction of Maz Kanata who makes her debut in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”.
Given that he is a two-foot tall alien with a poor grasp of sentence structure and a walking stick, his status, as a beloved iconic character, is a bit surprising. However, as the comic continues, Yoda becomes a badass character as he trains Luke Skywalker to fight against the Galactic Empire.
Other Famous Characters
Darth Maul (a deadly Sith Lord who has been trained by none other than Darth Sidious), Stormtroopers (the bad guys always wear white). Let’s face it, without Stormtroopers, Star Wars would be a lot less cool), and Luke Skywalker (son of Anakin who plays an important role in defending his community from the Galactic Empire).
