True Stories behind Romantic Movies that Explain a Lot

romantic movies

In the cinematic universe, many romantic comedies are based on made-up and fiction stories. Very few romantic movies actually feature a true story behind them. While Noah and Allie’s notebook might be work of fiction, you have plenty of true story examples out there that prove: love is indeed real. If you don’t believe us, let these romantic movies below speak for themselves:

It Could Happen to You (1994)

This drama/romance film tells the real-life story of a cop named “Robert Cunningham” who promises to share his lottery ticket as a tip to a waitress, Phyliss Penzo. In a surprising turn of events, the cop actually wins the ticket and shares half of the lottery prize. In the movie, the two characters Charlie Lang (Nicolas Cage) and Yvonne Biasi (Bridget Fonda) end up falling in love. This story tells us that life is unpredictable, but no amount of money in the world can buy happiness and love.

Southside with You (2016)

Many movies in the past have depicted the real life of Presidents. However, not many of them focus on romantic experiences and relationships. This movie from Richard Tanne depicts the first date between Barack Obama and Michelle Obama during the summers of 89’ and the events after. This true story of the ex-President tells us that all famous icons around the world started from the bottom. If you are struggling with love and a good future, have hope. Things will get better and you will find that beautiful person who will make you go the extra mile.

Fever Pitch (2005)

An adorable romance/comedy movie directed by Bobby Farrelly, Fever Pitch (2005) stars Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon. It follows a story about a woman in love with a Red Sox fanatic. It is based on the “Fever Pitch” essay written by Nick Hornby. The essay revealed one of his former relationships, but in the movie, the sport was changed from soccer to baseball. This true story tells you that sometimes you do fall in love with people who have a crazy, obsessive side to them. It doesn’t mean they don’t care about you, just that it truly means a lot to them. Will you accept them for who they are?

I Love You Phillip Morris (2009)

Probably one of Jim Carrey’s most daring roles ever, I Love You Phillip Morris (2009) is a film based on the real-life experiences of a Texas con man, Steven Jay Russell. He stole a million dollars posing as a doctor, pilot, and attorney. When he finally went to prison, he fell in love with another prisoner who he believes as his soul mate.

The movie features the same story, but with a rather comedic twist and challenges Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor to show their talent as actors who can perform diverse roles on any given day. The true story tells us that love has no gender and surely who are we to judge anyone’s love for another person. So, have no fear in who you have feelings for and be as open about them as possible. Let luck decide what happens next!
