Spiderman is one our favorite super heroes and that not only because he has got some amazing super powers but lives such a different life when he is not in his Spiderman costume. The first Spiderman movie released in 2002 made Marvel fans go crazy over it as it was based on the much-liked Marvel’s comic character, Spiderman. The movie starred Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker who was the Spiderman.
After Spiderman 3, a reboot was released which starred Andrew Garfield. This disappointed many fans as not only the story was going to be repeated but also the Tobey Maguire was no longer the Spiderman. There are many reasons why people still consider Maguire as the best Spiderman ever. Not only Maguire played Spiderman’s role amazingly but also he flawlessly performed Peter Parker’s role.
Tobey Performed Better
The first Spiderman, when walking around as Peter Parker, was a shy and nerdy college boy who used to get a little awkward around the girl he had a crush on. He would also make silly yet funny comments and jokes. Tobey Maguire performed this character perfectly while Andrew Garfield did not absorb the character’s personality.
Tobey Expressed Better
Many people argue that Tobey’s crying expressions are funny. Well to some it might look funny but what about Garfield’s expressionless crying? Garfield was seen being firm and very unnatural during such scenes. When I watched Tobey Maguire as Spiderman lose his uncle Ben, I cried too but when I watched Garfield doing the same scene in The Amazing Spiderman, I was not even convinced. It is not that Garfield’s acting skills suck but it is just that Tobey Maguire absorbed both the roles way better than Garfield did.
True to the Comics
While Tobey’s Spidey was seen to be emotional, caring and intelligent person who would save people, Garfield’s Spiderman was seen to be self centered who let a speeding truck run over people. Also the “Amazing” Spiderman was too skinny and weak looking to be a super hero while the original Spiderman was not very bulky and huge but relatively much better.
Tobey’s Spiderman also had amazing reflexes, which allowed him to dodge flying blades thrown by the Green Goblin, flew through a small opening of a bridge and other amazing stuff while Garfield’s Spiderman did not do such stuff and in fact, he was shot. If it was Tobey’s Spiderman, he would have dodged the bullet.
Peter Parker’s character was nailed by Tobey Maguire, as there was a touch of an outcast in him as he was more comfortable wearing the costume and the mask while Garfield did not look like much of an outcast.
We just could not accept Garfield doing the same thing Tobey had already done as Spiderman. Some people still might not agree with me but if I got into some kind of trouble, I would rather want Tobey Maguire to come as the friendly neighborhood Spiderman to save me instead of Andrew Garfield.
